CHART Conference to Spotlight Hospitality Training

The hospitality workforce is changing, and trainers are building their skills to adapt to those changes.

The latest developments in hospitality training are some of the topics on the agenda at The Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers’ CHART 98 Amplify Your Performance, being held Saturday through Tuesday, July 27-30, 2019, at the Marriott at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

The Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers (CHART) is a non-profit professional association that serves as the leading resource for the development and advancement of hospitality training professionals and their organizations. The organization has more than 500 members from 300-plus multi-unit restaurant and hotel companies, representing a workforce of almost three million.

Each summer, CHART's Hospitality Training Conference features current trends, best practices, and practical ideas that trainers can take back and implement immediately in their organizations. Top trainers attend each year to gain insight from thought-leaders and to celebrate developing people at CHART's annual Commitment to People awards and scholarships gala.

The importance of those insights can’t be overstated; the U.S. restaurant industry alone saw sales of more than $825 billion in 2018, while some estimates peg the size of the global hotel industry market at more than $500 billion. Operators of hospitality businesses frequently cite recruitment, training and retention as some of the biggest challenges they face.

This year’s conference will feature inspiring general session keynotes with nearly 35 speakers, including Colby Hutchinson, Senior Manager of Customer Care and Guest Feedback with Best Western Hotels & Resorts and Jen Swan, Senior Director of Learning & Development with First Watch Restaurants.

Also featured will be a number of breakout sessions covering some of the key issues facing hospitality trainers today, an “Ask My Peers” sharing session and competency certificate workshops that cover the major roles in hospitality training: Executive, Manager, Trainer and Instructional Designer.

Stefanie Kato, Director of Client Success and Stephany Sanchez, Sales Development Representative with technology firm Multimedia Plus, will be two of the hundreds of representatives of companies in the hospitality and training industries attending the conference. MMP recently debuted INCITE 5.0, the latest version of its INCITE mobile Associate Communications Platform.
